Telling the story of Western Colorado through spirits and history.
The announcement of the closures of our power plant and mines in January 2020 rightfully shocked the small communities in Northwest Colorado. As the largest taxpayer and a primary employer, the community began looking for the answer to “what happens next.” The idea of this business began in the search for that answer.
Bad Alibi Distillery was born out of a conversation and passion about North West Colorado and the stories we tell - creating craft spirits with a focus on value added ag, and most importantly historical and cultural preservation. As the book “Pappyland” rightfully described it, “you’re a marketing company that just happens to make spirits” - this concept is one that has been ran with from Bad Alibi Distillery.
Telling the story of Northwest Colorado and shipping our products out to attract new visitors, tourists, partner businesses, and the like is the most valuable thing we can do for our economically changing community - building something new, while preserving the past. We are also focused on becoming a key employer in the area with a promised 50 jobs by 2030 (manufacturing, service, etc.) - so the transition our community faces is a little less daunting economically.
Beyond the story telling, this business also brings the opportunity for dozens of others in our small valley including more growth within our agriculture community and the potential to create new feed sources for animals. Other opportunities include small-scale food manufacturing (syrups, cocktail bitters, etc.), coffee roasting and aging in used barrels, travel and tourism companies, hotels, and other businesses that create jobs and taxes.
This business allows for a generational legacy that we get to pass down to our kids, and our kids’s kids.
Bad Alibi Distillery is focused on highlighting the western heritage with high-quality distilled spirits in Northwest Colorado, using local ingredients sourced from farmers within Northwest Colorado. Partnering with the Museum of Northwest Colorado, Bad Alibi will bring to life the stories of our youth with outlaws who tackled the west - showcasing both place, culture, and agriculture through a variety of avenues including manufacturing, tourism, value added agriculture, and hospitality.
